1978 Chevrolet Corvette C3
This 1978 Corvette C3 came in as a mild track/street car. Stock chassis, stock front suspension, DANA 44 rear axle, small block Chevy, 5 speed TREMEC and a back half cage.
The customer wanted to take the car to the next level and build it for hill climb. The goal was to lose weight.
· Stripped the full car back to bare chassis and shell
· Front crossmember was cut out and new front chassis legs fabricated to accommodate a complete independent front suspension. This comprised of tubular stainless steel wishbones, coil overs, rack and pinion steering, comp brakes, six piston callipers and larger discs.
· From the main rear chassis cross member, the original chassis was completely cut out and new tube chassis rails were fabricated
· From the new rear chassis legs, the full roll cage was built
· Main hoop with double diagonals, split harness bar and tube cross member for rear coil over mounts were fabricated
· The main hoop rear supports also tie into the coil over mount tube crossmember
· Forwards off the main hoop were fabricated front legs incorporating a header bar above the windscreen and a dash bar
· Fabricated double diagonals over head to form over head protection
· Cross door bars
· Two forward tubes to support the front of the chassis
· 9” Ford rear axle with Strange Engineering aluminium third member built by Hauser Racing was located by a custom built 4 bar and Protech coil overs
